For me, it’s all been too simple, this blaming of others — Wall Street, “fat cats”, CEOs, banks — for what’s happening in our economy. Is it really that black and white? I tackle this in Sifting Through Financial Gray Area in today’s Game Plan.
Stay tuned for a leadership expert’s take on all of this in Friday’s Game Plan on FoxBusiness.com.
The problem with corporate America being behind so much of this economic mess is that we rarely see a human face accompanying the logo, so it’s easy to point a finger at a faceless company; not so much with a human being.
For the last decade or more, I’ve sensed those in my circle (myself included) becoming more and more leery of corporate giants who’ve been able to run amuck in a way no single person or small company has done before. (I’m thinking of some media giants in particular.) We’ve been uneasy about how much power they’ve been accumulating, so this opportunity to hold them accountable is really just trying to put a face on what has been so hidden for so long.
Hard to say whether or not this blame is misplaced, but the desire for human accountability is a valid one, particularly in the corporate world.
As a musician, I can’t stand what ClearChannel and Infinity have done to radio, but do I know what the bosses look like, or who they even are? This bothers me.
Great column, as always.
