Well, it’s been a full day here in Branson, Mo., but I must share. After a workout, massage and salt scrub and no New York Times, I had a photo shoot scheduled. The makeup artist’s name was Sally Champagne. Seriously, I introduced her to everybody I could find just so I could keep saying her name.
She found it inspiring that I have no kids because she couldn’t recall ever meeting anyone who didn’t have kids. “What would I do with my time if I didn’t have kids?” she kept saying. “What do you do all day?”
Oh, where to begin?
Sally Champagne offered a humble opinion, though. Doesn’t reek of arrogance. She’s probably one of those amazing parents who’s sacrificed a great deal to dedicate her time to the child(ren) she’s brought into this world…
And we could use more of her. I’ve worked with numerous families and can honestly say that guiding/caring for children is one heck of a job!
I just don’t like it when some parents assume that couples or women without children have no life. That’s not true– it’s just that we follow different paths. Besides, there are many reasons why some don’t bear children, after all, that may or may not have to do with choice.
Honestly, this was less a commentary about her judgment of me or my life than it was a huge insight into this part of the country. This is such a different America from what I know. It’s eye-opening.
My experience with Sally was delightful.
I totally get where you’re coming from on parenting, though. And I agree.
