My upcoming trip to Italy feels so much more official now that I’ve begun to arrange some of the details. I am trading homes with some friends and will get a wonderful taste of northern Italy in the process, from Milan to Tuscany to Rome. I am particularly excited about being in both city and country settings.

For those keeping score at home, I am one who practices what I preach. My vision board has affixed to it a picture of Michelangelo’s David and next to that a pile of suitcases. Underneath the board is a photo of the Tuscan coast from The New York Times Travel section of June 7, 2009, that I talk about in that day’s blog post.

Just three days later I was sitting in my dentist’s chair looking longingly at a poster of the famous photo American Girl in Italy, also detailed in a blog post. Fast forward to June 28, when I received an inquiring email from a friend about trading homes. I had tickets that very night to see a terrific one-man play called My Italy Story in Hoboken.

Amazing stuff. I’m in the flow, baby.
