My memories of sports writing range from fond to amazing and certainly one of the highlights of my career was covering women’s college basketball and voting on the Associated Press poll in that sport. So yesterday’s news of Tennessee coach Pat Summitt being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease hit me hard, even if the 5.8 earthquake didn’t.
After reading the current news on Summitt, I went back and reread Gary Smith’s brilliant piece on her from Sports Illustrated for some additional perspective. So inspiring.
