Belief system
Did an interesting interview with Morty Lefkoe, creator of The Lefkoe Method of eliminating beliefs that are holding you back in life. Check out what he had to say and how he came to make a business of this in today’s Game Plan called Eliminate Beliefs That Run Your Life.
It’s a heck of a thing to ponder and take action on as we enter a new year.
Turning the page
I am so happily immersed in planning for 2009, personally and professionally. I’m looking closely at how to word my goals, how time-bound I want them to be and where I want to focus my attention in the first quarter of the year.
I just love the clean slate, fresh canvas feeling!
Many more
Celebrated my birthday in the city today. Trekked to Midtown with a friend and saw the tree again. Did some fun browsing in Anthropologie. Had a decadent hot chocolate at Maison du Chocolat (thanks for the tip, Kathi). Decided to hit the Paris Theatre for a showing of The Reader, a mind-blowing and beautifully shot movie. Hit Little Italy for some old school Italian food.
On top of it all, felt blessed and gratified by all the well wishers who sent cards, emails and Facebook greetings. So wonderful. I feel abundant.
Happy Birthday to me.
Home
I’m back. I’m back. I’m back.
Had a really good holiday week that included seeing my brother’s and sister’s Christmas trees, having lunch with my cousin’s wife (who is really more a friend), having another lunch with my mother, aunt and cousin, and spending time with a few friends. Also baked cookies, did some light shopping and just hung out. Nice.
But it is also wonderful to come back to my urban world because it fits me like a glove. Just came from my first workout in a week and my body is whispering ‘thank you’ over and over again. I so enjoy this week before the New Year is ushered in.
While I was gone and computer-less, two Game Plan columns ran on the FoxBusiness.com website. The first, called Seven Layoffs and Still Smiling, is about a guy named Assaf Kedem who has the most refreshingly positive attitude about being laid off that I’ve ever encountered. The second is about the movie “The Holiday” — which I highly recommend — and the life lessons I extracted from it. It’s called Let in ‘The Holiday’ Magic.
It’s nice to be home.
Give me a break
I’m heading into a week-long computer-free zone. No email. No Internet. Scary but true.
All my best wishes for a prosperous and creative holiday season and coming year!
The gift of time
After getting so much great feedback on my gift ideas column last week, I put together another Game Plan gift list that is focused around giving time and it is also last-minute friendly. These ideas come from Stacy London of TLC’s What Not To Wear, Gene Arnold of the Vitamin Barn, Michael Corriero of Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York, Erica Boeke of GameFace, and Laura Radensky of Jewish Home Lifecare. If you have any seniors on your list, Radensky’s ideas are particularly good for that population.
Happy Shopping!
Cookie time
I’m gearing up for Saturday, when Mom and I will do our annual cookie baking. It’s always a hoot. I’m orderly. Mom’s all over the place. The Christmas music will be on. We’ll disagree on which size is an ideal spoonful of dough to drop onto the cookie sheet. We’ll laugh at the one tray we’ll forget about and burn.
For us, it’s not about making pretty cookies. It’s how they taste. It’s the process.
It’s tradition.
Is the FBI in your job search?
In this crazy job market, you know who has a lot of job openings? The FBI. And not just for agents.
Today’s Game Plan is the result of a conversation with the good folks who do the hiring: Want to Work for the FBI?
Astrology fever
When I saw the Van Gogh exhibit at MOMA last week, I came away with one small souvenir: a postcard of his painting called The Sower. I think I was particularly drawn to its message and the big sunrise on the horizon because I feel that 2008 has been a year of sowing in my life. That bodes well for 2009, doesn’t it?
Then I was reading Astrology Zone by Susan Miller and smiled when I saw this:
We only get a year this critical every 12 years, so it is as rare as it is wonderful. The seeds you planted in 2008 will now begin to grow in the next gestation, the second cycle, also a year in length, due to start after January 5, 2009.
Not to mention this:
Let’s just say that Pluto rules transformations, so you are akin to a silk worm that is about to blossom into a butterfly over time.
And this, because it is already happening:
You’ll feel the light bulb go on over your head several times this month, so if you need to come up with ideas (and who doesn’t?) then you will do so this month.
And finally:
Remember how hard mid-2003 to mid-2005 was for you? This will be just the opposite. Those dark days are over and they are not coming back!
Go ahead, make my day.
Blessed wisdom
I have had several life coaching clients in need of extra counsel this week and I have been gratified to find the right words for each situation. Such a blessing.
Good thing I bought that stark white owl ornament yesterday. Oh so wise.
Hmmmmm. Maybe white and wise = pure wisdom. Nice thought.
