Went to see Doubt yesterday. Couldn’t resist, being a former Catholic and all and actually finally bidding the Church good-bye when the priest scandal broke to little response from Rome.

I found the combination of subject matter and acting mesmerizing. It really brought to life the deeply troubling parts of the issue of molestation without actually showing any — the effect on the children, the strength of the patriarchy, the willingness of people in authority to put their heads in the sand. The nuance was incredible and powerful.

The film is sitting with me in a way most don’t.
