Today’s Game Plan began with some dialogue between Derek and Meredith on last week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy and brought me to signs of changing gender roles, Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Catherine Malandrino, Pink and even an episode of Friends. Go figure — Of Women and Strength.

Nancy, I just LOVED this column and immediately forwarded it to my daughter and some girlfriends. I particularly like your comparison between the two songs “We Will Survive” (which was so empowering at the time it came out….) and Pink’s song. Yes, just a little change in perspective over the years, huh? I am now going to re-read the column and forward it to my son and some male friends because while I first read it from my female perspective, the points you make apply to all of us. Keep the columns coming!
I’m so glad it touched you. Thank you!
Great column indeed, Nancy. Similar thoughts have occurred to me lately with the introduction of these “bromance” comedies, like the new “I Love You, Man,” where we see men relating to each other in ways we haven’t seen before in the movies.
The liberation of women has led to the liberation of men, too, where they can be themselves now without fear of being unattractive or weak to women. Well-rounded women want well-rounded men as a mate, and these new comedies are another step in the right direction for us all.
Plus, Paul Rudd is just so DAMN CUTE.
