Only those who live urban can understand what it feels like to get behind the wheel of a car when it isn’t part of your normal. I gave up my car a decade ago and renting one in New Mexico today was pure joy. Went for the bright red Toyota Corolla since that was the last car I actually owned. Focusing on the road with sky and mountains as the backdrop felt euphoric.

Funny sidenote. The rental car guy in the lot all but jumped in the car with me. What do you mean you don’t own a car? To further add to his amusement I informed him that I also live in one of the last states that doesn’t allow you to pump your own gas. So I’m not exactly adept at that. He wished he could be a fly on the wall for that, he said.

Then, in a surreal moment, he brought up The Real Housewives of New York and how much he likes that show. Are you like them? Uh, no, I try not to backstab my friends whenever possible. Can a Jersey Shore reference be far behind?
