Sometimes I think the best times of the holiday season are those I don’t plan. Between appointments in New York today, I stopped at Lily O’Brien’s for a Belgian hot chocolate and then strolled to Macy’s for my annual visit to Holiday Lane.

I love all the Christmas trees, themed and sparkling. Picked up some fun Christmas cards. Went down one floor and loooooooooooved the Jonathan Adler display, both the ornaments and the home accessories.

On my way out, took advantage of the fact that there were no crowds at the display windows and drank them in. So wonderful that they were about the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Stark white with silver accents. Wishes. Ornaments as wishes.

One window make me teary behind my sunglasses as I read wish after wish of children who are so sick. I want to be a farmer. I want to swim with dolphins. I want to go to the Galapagos Islands. Sigh.

At the next window you could customize an ornament using an interactive display. I enjoyed moving the color wheel and changing the size of the Christmas tree pattern I chose.

Good day. A bit of whimsy. A lot of perspective.
