If I were life coaching an aspiring actor, I could easily see myself suggesting an exercise where he creates and practices an Academy Award speech as part of the “visioning” in our coaching. Not necessarily making that the focus, but as much a part of the process as encouraging a writer to envision her name on the bestsellers list or a singer picturing himself at Carnegie Hall.

Last weekend, though, as I watched the Oscars I kept thinking about the people being thanked in the speeches, the ones who stood by the hardworking person or pushed them to excel. Shouldn’t we all aspire to be that for somebody in one way or another? Tuning in to The Voice the other night only reinforced this.
