Sunday reading highlights
Loved Frank Bruni’s piece in The New York Times Sunday Magazine on Scott Brown. I am ever intrigued by the guy and love that he found the Saturday Night Live skit on him as hilarious as I did.
Also read with great interest Al Gore’s op-ed piece titled We Can’t Wish Away Climate Change. Somewhere between ignorantly laughing it off because you don’t care for Al Gore and holing up in a forest so you don’t expend or consume energy is a rational and happy medium, methinks.
A wish expressed
Sure wish the Riesling-loving, poker-playing, nice-looking guy I sat next to on the plane back from Vegas and talked to about Tiger Woods, the Vogue article on Tim Geithner I was reading, and how much he loves what he does for a living would buzz me.
Just sayin’ …
Presenting Vanessa Rousso
Sometimes I feel like a broken record when I talk about how much I enjoy interviews I’ve done for my Game Plan columns, but I guess I just know how to pick ‘em. Poker pro Vanessa Rousso had so much to say about risk and living life when I caught up with her at the PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour (NAPT) at the Venetian in Las Vegas.
Check her out in Managing Risk in Poker and Life.
Helluva job, Brownie
In case we all needed proof that American voters can be fickle, knee-jerk, petulant and one-dimensional, Gawker gives us some screen shots from Scott Brown’s Facebook page (and even his daughter’s!):

Talking to Joe Cada
What a pleasure to interview 22-year-old poker pro Joe Cada at the PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour (NAPT) at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Catch his thoughts in today’s Game Plan: An Ambassador for Poker as Sport.
Flash and flaunt
Spent a long weekend in Las Vegas and enjoyed it immensely. Picked up a few Game Plan columns at the PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour at the Venetian, both of which will go live this week. Stay tuned for those.
Also did some eating that had Food Network written all over it. Mario Batali’s Enoteca. Wolfgang Puck’s Postria. Lagasse’s Stadium (Emeril’s pulled pork sandwich and some Canada-USA hockey, perfect together). Even Hash House, courtesy of friends Justin and Bobbi, sounded familiar and my research jarred my memory — a Rachael Ray fave in Vegas.
Shocking to no one who knows me well, I didn’t gamble. No desire whatsoever. My addictive urges were more sparked by the inordinate amount of gorgeous shopping options in the city of flash and flaunt. Over-stimmed doesn’t begin to cover it.
What a world.
Let’s Move, please
Sometimes all it takes for me to riff is a commercial about a peach. This one brought to mind Kevin Smith, model Coco Rocha, my trip to Italy last year, and Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” program.

Social networking style
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from over a year enjoying Facebook, it’s that everyone has their own social networking style. Mine is working for me and it comes so naturally. Is yours?

Marrying and settling
With Valentine’s Day upon us, I decided to dive into author Lori Gottlieb’s book, Marry Him, The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough. The title alone has caused a bit of a stir and I had to see for myself what she has to say.
In today’s Game Plan, Judging a Date by His Cover, I talk about why I wholeheartedly recommend the book despite what I didn’t like about it. And just for good measure, there’s some Super Bowl ads commentary, an annoying quote from Jimmy Kimmel to Jay Leno, and a dose of Sex and the City.
How’s that for bang for your buck?

A seemingly tormented artist and fashion designer has passed on. Courtesy of Lady Gaga, I will remember him thus:
