Much obliged

A big fat shout-out to Bill Dueease for reposting part of my Game Plan column from last week (Parents As Life Coaches? Not Necessarily) on his blog, The Coach Connection. I appreciate the gesture.

Quotable

In a quote-sy mood lately.

“The ability to be in the present moment is a major component of mental wellness.”

A life in the union tradition

One of the best things about being a columnist is being able to write about people you come across who have an interesting story to tell or a special way about them. Today’s Game Plan is the result of my conversation with IBEW Local 164’s Kevin O’Sullivan, who is running for business manager of the local in a June election. His humanity struck me as noteworthy.

You decide: A Life in the Union Tradition.

Ready for some CAM action

Hard to believe the annual Conversation Among Masters (CAM) conference is just two weeks away. I’m excited about seeing friends, opening myself up to stimulating conversations among fellow life coaches and our speakers, and of course, returning to wonderful New Mexico.

The Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa awaits …

Quotable

From Garrison Keillor’s Writer’s Almanac newsletter this morning:

“I do not wish women to have power over men; but over themselves.”

Spring cleaning & preening

All kinds of purging and growth going on over here in my world. Put a table out by the curb with a “free” sign on it today. Took three bags of clothes over to the homeless shelter. Working through possibilities for a kitchen mini-makeover and ditching and cleaning along the way.

And, as a reward for good behavior, just indulged in the sweetest gift from my friend Erin in California. She sent two “Garden-in-a-bag” flower plants — Mini Sunflower and Mimulus – so I opened them up, planted the seeds and will wait for my little miracles to appear.

Let me say now that I have never planted a flower in my life, so this is a fun little virgin voyage.

Hard to believe I hit a launch party for Maria Snyder’s Eco Boys and Girls characters at the Liberty Science Center in the middle of all this today.

Woohoo.

Art on the floor

A seriously cool Fornasetti rug from the April cover of New York Spaces magazine:

A designer’s vision for the planet

If someone gives me a chance to write about fashion and Earth Day in the same breath, well, there’s a pretty good chance I’m going to take it. Former super model and artist/fashion designer Maria Snyder has created Eco Boys and Girls, a short animated film featuring some fun, eco-friendly characters that is launching at the Liberty Science Center for Earth Week.

Today’s Game Plan comes from our conversation at the W Hotel in Hoboken and is about One Woman’s Vision for the Planet.

Parents as life coaches? Hmmm …

All I needed to riff on my esteemed life coaching profession is to see some of the public’s reaction to NFL Draft prospect Dez Bryant hiring a life coach. So often in social situations I hear people remark that those who hire coaches must not have parents or friends. They are so, so off the mark.

Thanks to Miami Herald writer Armando Salguero for his insightful piece on Bryant. Some of that and more in today’s Game Plan: Parents As Life Coaches? Not Necessarily.
