The real appeal of ‘Sex and the City’

by Nancy Colasurdo on May 28, 2010

So call me a nut, but I couldn’t resist accepting an invite to see Sex and the City 2 at the stroke of midnight on its opening day. And, well, you know that means a Game Plan column naturally follows.

There’s so much more than glitz to this franchise. Credit Michael Patrick King for his consistent dedication to depth. Here we have part commentary on the brand, part review: The Real Appeal of ‘Sex and the City.’

Artsy afternoon

by Nancy Colasurdo on May 27, 2010

Visited the Museum of Modern Art today to see the Henri Cartier-Bresson photo exhibit with friends Marie and Kathi. Marie is a gifted photographer, so we got some special insights along the way.

One of my faves, called Martine’s Legs:

Cast your vote!

by Nancy Colasurdo on May 26, 2010

In a Game Plan column called Entrepreneurs in the Making last year, I wrote about a terrific film called Ten9Eight and its director, Mary Mazzio. Well, I’m proud to say it’s been nominated for a VH-1 Do Something award in the DOCU category and you can vote for it right here.

The awards will be broadcast from Hollywood on July 19.

Summer reading stimulation

by Nancy Colasurdo on May 25, 2010

People are beginning to buzz about summer reading, so today’s Game Plan is all about giving some of my suggestions as we head into Memorial Day weekend. Authors Marcia Reynolds, Sandy Abrams and Ellen Leikind round out the “new” list while Janet Evanovich (see last year’s interview) and Julia Cameron provide more familiar themes.

Here’s some Summer Reading Stimulation.

Further recommendations welcome!

Sweet, sweet music

by Nancy Colasurdo on May 23, 2010

My heart is full.

Went to see the New York Youth Symphony at Carnegie Hall today. Seeing my cousin Anthony onstage in this historic venue was such a treat. I particularly enjoyed Richard Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben because the synopsis in the program paired with the music brought to mind a memoir. At least that’s my writer take on it.

Then I hoofed it back to Hoboken to catch my client, Mirna, in a concert at St. Matthew’s church held to benefit our local homeless shelter. Mirna sang a song she composed called Can’t There Be and her voice is just so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. The rest of the concert was good for the soul, too.

An amazing day of music.

The art of accountability

by Nancy Colasurdo on May 21, 2010

One of the things I noticed while among professional coaches at Conversation Among Masters (CAM) in New Mexico last week was our penchant for keeping each other accountable, even in the most casual conversations.

Here’s a bit more on my takeaway regarding The Art of Accountability  in today’s Game Plan.

One girl’s nightmare is another’s …

Video from a friend:

Uh, what’s the opposite of nightmare? Apparently whoever named it never saw The Thornbirds.

Some Coca Cola Light, anyone?

Taking on ‘The Fifth Agreement’

by Nancy Colasurdo on May 19, 2010

Being in the company recently of authors Don Miguel Ruiz and Don Jose Ruiz in New Mexico at Conversation Among Masters (CAM), a coaching conference, was extraordinary. I had read The Fifth Agreement on the plane en route and its wisdom colored my entire trip.

Today’s Game Plan has some thoughts on that as well as The Four Agreements with some Ozzy Osbourne and the Beatles thrown in: Taking on ‘The Fifth Agreement’

Would love it if you’d check in with some thoughts of your own.

A dose of Liz Gilbert

by Nancy Colasurdo on May 17, 2010

Thanks to my friend Kathi for this video of Elizabeth Gilbert speaking at the 10th Anniversary of O Magazine. Gilbert is so real. How lovely that her success continues to be about that.
