I have started the year with a thoughtful, productive day, assessing what I want to accomplish in the first quarter of 2009. It’s been so soothing.
About an hour ago, I decided to take a little YouTube break and let myself wander around. A sampling of my favorites:
Melissa Etheridge and Joss Stone in a tribute to Janis Joplin
Christina Aguilera, Beautiful
Barbra Streisand, Don’t Rain on My Parade, from Funny Girl
Whitney Houston, Star-Spangled Banner, at the Super Bowl during the Persian Gulf War
So inspiring to see artists in their element.
Beautiful is one of those songs that gives me chills. If only Christina hadn’t worn make-up for it, the video would have had an even more powerful effect.
You leads took me through a stroll of Streisand videos, one of which was “My Man.” But THAT led me to the original version by Fanny Brice. WOW! They cleaned up the unseemlier (and more powerful) aspects of the song. Fanny’s version is so much sadder, while Streisand’s is more determined.

That is much sadder. I must say, my fav version of that song is by the one and only Billie Holiday.
