With all the talk about ethnicity and gender floating around Supreme Court justice nominee Sonia Sotomayor, these topics were already on my mind. But then I happened on an article in The Daily News about Melody Morales, who has sued a Manhattan eatery for alleged racist comments in connection with a job interview.

Whether these particular women are the best candidates for the job is not for me to decide, but I can do my part to elevate the national discussion. So I drew on what I know: my days as a sports writer and a decided minority.
