Sometimes the germ of a column idea comes from a timely juxtaposition. Recently it was seeing Bronnie Ware’s piece about regrets and dying making the rounds on Facebook and a Huffington Post article about how requiring 20 percent down on a home will affect those seeking to buy. That intersection hit me upside the head.
Today’s Game Plan: Finding and Living the Real American Dreams
ok so you dont buy your own home ..you live in a rented apartment or house and you loose your job…..and the landlord throws you out…..at least if you sort of owned your own home (the bank owning the rest of it) well you could probably stay in your house……instead of living in your car…..just an idea….
Here’s an idea, Joe. Go back and read the part of the column that says this is not a knock on home ownership. It is an attempt to get Americans thinking BEYOND the pragmatic for five minutes and realize they have much to be thankful for even if owning a home eludes them or takes longer to accomplish.
We have control over what we treasure and prioritize in life. Of course owning a home is smart if one is in a position to do so. But one’s ability to live a rich life shouldn’t depend on it.
I have to say that your article greatly offended me. It seems to me that whenever a democrat president is in power, every effort to provide cover for him is made by every liberal with a pen or computer. Owning a home IS the pinnacle of every American. Renting can be equated to slavery. Imagine the ‘massa’ owning everything! We, the dependent, owns nothing! We have to pay our ‘plantation owners’ for room and board! To announce that home ownership is no longer the American dream is tantamount to robbing us of our desire to be free!! Remember…life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!!…That is the cornerstone of the American experience!! NO ONE should dare seek to deny us that…NO ONE!! Your article is pure propaganda, plain and simple and I wish the left would stop trying to dumb down the American populace. It is wrong and bordering on evil. This president has botched any effort at recovery and now the willing are out in full force to divert and minimize his failed policies. We are not sleeping. There is no hope and change, at least not positive ones, occurring. We are sliding off a cliff. This has to stop!
I see your mind is made up, Patrick. I do appreciate the feedback, though.
