While much of the news around Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker these days feels media-created, I saw an opportunity here to address adversity and standing tall in what one believes. Especially when it’s hard. Mayor Booker is already known for that, but is used to being more of a media darling than a target.
An appearance on Meet the Press and the creation of the phrase “I Stand With Cory” and everything changed on a dime.
Today’s Game Plan: Life Coaching NJ Mayor Cory Booker
Cory was originally defending Bain and their work, and not necessarily endorsing Romney which he would never do for a variety of reasons. However, if required to work with Romney, I suspect he could do so. Democrats are beyond fury that he strayed off the reservation. It isn’t just pundits or the WH feeling the fury, but just everyday posters that would rather see this country fall on its knees that work with the other party. This is what is disgusting about both parties.
Yesterday a video came to my attention with Rubio and two other democrats working on an economic issue together which is called bi-partisan something rarely seen these days in Washington. It was nice to see. Paul Ryan is doing the same and trying to get something done. Cory was pointing out he just wants to get something done to make things better for everybody.
My dad worked in Newark NJ for many years. I lived about 20 min from there as a child. It was once a proud city. The folks that are left cannot possibly resurrect that city without the likes of folks that work at Bain. They need outside investment which is why Cory decided to speak up. He has a vested interest in the private equity world and courting the private sector.
I am sadden that Cory did not stand up to the WH and his party and take them to task on this one issue of campaigning in the mud. It never had to mean he was throwing his support to the other team, just pointing out the obvious. His forced pushback is painful to watch. I have been rooting for Cory from Day 1. Now I feel sad.
Until he had his mind made right and created his “hostage video” (term used by the alphabet networks) trying to walk-back his comments. love watching the democrat party implode!
Thank you for this thoughtful reply. As I say in the piece, I suspect Mayor Booker has a deep enough spiritual well to weather this and emerge better and stronger.
Interesting handle there. I’m not really seeing the implosion, but I do appreciate you taking the time to write.
